Every morning driving into work I hear very expensive rush hour
advertisements for various "Yellow Page" style directories. And every
morning I think to myself "Is this really necessary?" I don't know
about the rest of the world but I only get a phone book from my phone
company...which...in most cases only one landline phone company with
service a particular area. So why do these companies pour millions of
dollars into advertising that "ABC Yellow Pages" are better then "XYZ
Yellow Pages"? No, I don't have the answer.
Even though I abstain from having a landline phone in my home due to
low cellular rates, Embarq would be my local provider. They've gone so
far as to give their book the personal name of "Dex". (I'm assuming a
spinoff of 'Index') My next question is do people, aside from people on
the run going to a phone booth and ripping a page out in a movie,
actually USE these antiquated devices anymore? They do make great
booster seats for children though. And it really impresses the ladies
when you can rip one in half. I guess for non-connected homes and
businesses it might be useful, but my guess is that will slowly slip
away into obscurity.
Well, if you're ever looking for me, don't bother looking in the phone
book as you'll never see me listed there until they start indexing cell
numbers! But you can always contact me at
